15 Minute Homemade Applesauce

Canned applesauce is okay and we stock it on our food storage but I turn to this microwave applesauce recipe when I want an applesauce that tastes like real fresh apples. The best thing about this applesauce is that it is so easy it only takes a couple minutes to whip up. The trick though is to use more than one type of apple so you get the best out of each apple. For instance Galas, Golden Delicious and Honey crisps apples are sweet, while Braeburn, Fuji and Jazz have a slightly more tart taste. If you were to make apple sauce out of just one type of apple you would probably find it too sweet or too tart, mixing two varieties gives you a better flavor and balances out the sweet and tart without adding any other ingredients. This trick works for anything you bake with apples really.

Other applesauce recipes require you to boil or bake the apples which is great for canning but when you want just a small batch of fresh apple sauce as a side to hmm…let’s say to a delicious Sunday roast (yes this a shameless plug but it really is that good with homemade applesauce) baking, boiling and straining can be a lot of work. This method only takes a few minutes in the microwave and a little bit of mashing and you have got a great tasting applesauce. (I recommend refrigerating before serving but that is a personal preference because I like my applesauce ice cold)
